Pull up a chair. I’m Melody—the animal-obsessed heart behind Healthy Tails, the person who will happily read a pet-food label line by line, and the friend who will remind you to breathe when the internet makes feeding your animal sound harder than launching a rocket. I take the work seriously. I just don’t believe we have to be miserable while we do it.
Healthy Tails begins with Thor. When a spinal lesion took him from me, grief left me with a heart full of love and a head full of questions: What had I missed? What could I learn? How could I help the next animal sooner and more thoughtfully? Those questions sent me back to school and into thousands of hours of education in holistic pet nutrition and wellness. Thor could not stay for the work that followed, but he is woven into every family I help—and every time I make something complicated a little less frightening, I know exactly where that lesson began.
School was never supposed to become another business. I was already in business with my sister through our florist company, and I had no plan to add anything else. Halfway through my studies, I heard a clear direction from the Holy Spirit to start Healthy Tails. I did not receive a guarantee that it would be easy. I received an assignment to serve. My faith is the foundation beneath this business: animals are unique creations entrusted to our care, and pet parents deserve guidance that is honest, practical, compassionate, and free from shame.
I have completed more than 4,000 hours of education in holistic pet nutrition and wellness and currently hold 4 Professional Certifications. My education is entirely focused on holistic pet nutrition and wellness, grounded in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine principles and food energetics. That training shapes how I approach fresh feeding, everyday wellness, and the wonderfully individual needs of each animal. I am not a veterinarian, a board-certified veterinary nutritionist, or a medical provider. I do not diagnose disease or replace veterinary care.
I start with the animal standing in front of us—not a trend, not a scary list from social media, and definitely not a one-size-fits-all bowl. I look at history, current food, preferences, lifestyle, environment, veterinary information, and constitution. Then I turn that homework into realistic steps you can actually live with.
You will always know what I am recommending, why it matters, and what comes next. If a diagnosis, medication, or treatment is involved, your veterinarian keeps the medical seat. I stay beside you for the everyday nutrition-and-wellness pieces.

My American Staffordshire Terrier used to eat dirt like it was his job. Turns out his system was desperate for minerals. Once I figured that out, I was able to nourish him so effectively that he's thriving on real food alone - no extra supplements needed.

She tore both her knees (CCL) at the same time and had to go through back-to-back surgeries. She also struggled with severe itching for years. Since I started feeding for her specific constitution, she's comfortable - and that shift happened through her bowl. Now I'm just working on getting about 15lbs of "extra love" off her to protect those knees!

Our meningitis survivor. He actually had a ruptured eardrum from being hit in the head before he came to us, and a simple swim in a pond changed his life forever. The meningitis left him deaf in that ear and, honestly, a little goofy in the head—but we love him exactly as he is! He's a physical powerhouse, even if he still needs to lose about 10 lbs.

The cat runs the house with an iron paw and zero apologies.

The Appendix horse, he is the reason I went deep into equine nutrition — because watching intentional feeding transform a horse's energy and temperament is something you can't unsee.

My mini-donkey is living proof that small animals have massive nutritional needs.

My standard jennies are the daily reminder that these long-eared souls deserve just as much thoughtful nourishment as any dog or cat.

She once belonged in this pack section. Today, she belongs in a different chapter: Healthy Tails Real Stories. I rescued her from Okeechobee Animal Control in March 2026 at approximately 95 pounds. About four and a half months later, she left for her forever home at approximately 112 pounds, with a custom meal plan and supplement guide for her new family. Her work was not finished—she still needed roughly another 10 pounds—but she was stronger, supported, and ready for the home waiting for her.

You do not have to become a pet-food researcher, water-quality detective, ingredient sleuth, laundry-product critic, and animal-behavior observer overnight. I already volunteered for the homework. Bring me the animal, the bowl, the home, the routines, the products, the budget, and the real-life “but how on earth am I supposed to do that?” parts. I’ll bring the honesty, the whole-animal thinking, and probably coffee.
